I have taken up my blog again this new year, not as a resolution. Every year of my life I have made resolutions at new year's or just written a summary of my life of the past year. This year I purposely did not, just to see what would happen.
Would life be different this year? Maybe I will lose the weight if I don't make the resolution. Maybe I will eat healthier if I don't resolve to do it. I think my word might mean nothing as far as resolutions go.
I recently watched the movie "Tara Road" based on the book by Maeve Binchy and one thought stayed with me. We don't know we are in one of the happiest times of our life until after it has passed.
I didn't know my happiness quotient would drop so much after Dad died. I am grateful for the 48 years I did have him as a father.
I am copying my son's tribute to my father on his blog http://www.andrewspearin.ca/journal/ with the same picture.
This was taken last summer when there were so many caterpillars. At one point, Dad got up and went into the house clutching his pant leg and found that a caterpillar had crawled up his leg. We will miss him so much.
I used the same User Name for Library Thing and Delicious: "Esconced". I don't know why.
Not sure of the ins and outs of Library Thing yet but will enjoy exploring. I do know I must have made a typo when I registered my name "Ensconced". See below.
Sigh.

Did you know our CEO is a popular children's author?
Here is his esteemed bio from Wikipedia:
His book "Past Tense" was nominated for the prestigious Governor General’s Award for Children’s Literature in 1994. He has also been a finalist for the Christie Book Award and for the Canadian Children’s Book of the Year. His book "The Thumb in the Box" received a starred review in The Horn Book. Another children’s novel, "Hiccup Champion of the World", has been translated into a number of languages. Ken won the Canadian Public Library Association’s Outstanding Service Award in 2001 and his library system won the Ontario Library Association’s President’s Award for Exceptional Achievement in 2002.
He agreed to hiccup for photographer, Anne-Marie Jackson, who asked him to replicate the cover of his book "Hiccup Champion of the World." See more of her work at www.amjackson.ca
On my way home from errands in the blustery snow, I realized my house was biscuitless. How could I possibly have tea without a biscuit? So I stopped into my new favourite store, King's Cross, in Dundas, and got some Fox's and Cadbury digestives.
This cozy, cosy new British shop is downstairs in the old Java Fair location on King Street at Main, behind Thirsty Cactus. They have clothes, Celtic jewellery, canned goods and groceries, frozen steak pies brought down from Opie's on Concession, baked goods, crisps and chocolate ---chocolate--- chocolate. Those Fry's cream-fillled chocolates... And now, watches with Great Britain or Scotland crests on the face. On Saturdays, browse with a cup of tea and the new electric fireplace will probably be on...
Another shameless promo on my part, but I can't resist. My cousin Heather, in Santa Monica, CA, makes the most beautiful jewellery and the photos of the exquisite flowers she uses to model the pieces are so beautiful
My sister bought these earrings and they are gorgeous:

Thanks!
I finally figured out with input from colleagues that my internet browser doesn't support feeds. So with more help and input from colleagues I registered with www.bloglines.com and am now FINALLY receiving feeds. Live and learn.
I picked two feeds that they had on offer, www.salon.com and about.com's contemporary literature.
I still want The Hamilton Spectator and people.com, and of course my son's site, www.spearin.ca/andrew. Shameless promoter, aren't I?
On to Wikis.
Feeds. Why is everything food-related?
Anyway, I subscribed to two RSS feeds, The Spectator newspaper and of course, People magazine, but never got any responses. Didn't know that they don't go into your email. Someone much younger than me pointed out that I have to go to my Favourites to see them. Duh.
Tonight, I will subscribe to feeds from my favourite website www.spearin.ca/andrew, my son's. He is an award-winning student photojournalist who will be finished his program in Photojournalism in April. His photos are not for the overly sensitive.
